I have mentioned several times in previous posts that I am allergic to gluten and dairy and as a result, there are many food experiences that are a real novelty for me purely because it’s been so long since I’ve been able to enjoy certain foods. On Saturday evening, my favourite doughnut place (G-Free Donuts) which has previously only operated as a market stall intermittently opened a permanent site in my city (big yay).
This excited me for two reasons, firstly that I would be able to enjoy hot cinnamon gluten and dairy free doughnuts more frequently and secondly because on opening night all doughnuts were $1 (max 5 per person). So, on this particularly raining Saturday evening, the doughnut opening night became our date night!
Five doughnuts would normally cost $10, but as a one off we were able to buy five for only $5. As I’ve said before, this was a real treat for me because I can’t just walk into my local super market and buy any old doughnut. All in all, it was a very enjoyable date- we had to line up for a while (to be expected) but it was a good experience for both of us and we got to spend quality time together without an expensive evening attached- we were still out and about.
We then took our remaining doughnuts home and had an evening on the couch with a movie on Netflix (we had dinner at home beforehand). So as a result of this frugal yet highly successful night, I wanted to take the time to note the real enjoyment I got out of the whole experience which for a date night, came in at an extremely low cost.
It’s not always necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on going out to enjoy a date night with your significant other. Sometimes it’s about the small things that bring us joy and also don’t happen to cost very much. Moreover, I can’t wait to go back- even at full price. Even my boyfriend said (who has no allergies) if you didn’t know they were gluten free and vegan you wouldn’t be able to tell, that’s how good they are.
What simple and frugal date nights have you experienced?
